Stibos Project

Introducing the Stibos Project, an ambitious multi-disciplinary research project at the University of South Carolina.  We seek to foster sustained inquiry through student-driven research and information literacy, to build a campus-wide infrastructure to facilitate next-generation research tools, and to encourage students and faculty to think computationally about research behavior as a recursive process.  Along the way, we’ll try to develop an algorithmic model for understanding the relationship between information and inquiry.  We’re currently in beta pilot with approximately 250 student researchers this semester and we’re looking to extend our pilot to each year’s incoming class beginning in 2009.   Sponsored by the Center for Digital Humanities with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from Computer Science Engineering, First-Year English, and Digital Humanities.
